The preparation stage of our process is made up of several tasks which taken together prepare new legislation and its effects on existing legislation for publication on legislation.gov.uk. The documentation in this area covers 'identify effects' and 'record effects' work.

The update stage involves carrying through the effects of new legislation into a specific item of affected legislation by editing the text and adding appropriate annotations to give authority for the amendments.  The documentation in this area includes detailed instructions on how to carry out specific amendments.

Anyone with an account can contribute to the content of the wiki. We have produced a [[Revising Legislation/Editorial Wiki Style Guide|style guide]] which should be referred to when adding content in order to help ensure that the content of the wiki remains consistent and accurate. The style guide sets out some basic 'rules' for how new entries should be drafted and includes some useful guidance on html tagging for those wanting to include additional information such as tables and images.  All content added will be subject to approval by a senior member of the editorial team at The National Archives.
